From the Sassi to the Murgia, crossing the Tibetan bridge

Matera is a harsh city, perched on the fissure of the canyon called Gravina and retains numerous traces of its millenary history, clearly visible above all on the opposite side to that of the Sassi: the so-called area of the Murgia Materana. Our tour "from the stones to the Murgia" is of a mixed type, urban and hiking and the most evocative and exciting part is certainly that of crossing the Tibetan bridge on the bottom of the canyon, a tour that mixes culture and adrenaline, man and territory.

 The side of the Sassi will allow you to learn about the history of the city, its evolution and its significant relationship with a difficult environment made of stone, scorching sun and above all characterized by the need to collect rainwater (we are in a karst area) before that it sinks into the underground networks.

We will go from a totally anthropized area (we are talking about the anthill of the Sassi) to one in which the traces of the so-called "Neolithic revolution" are still visible

The Murgia is an incredible cross-section of human adaptability, animal and vegetable biodiversity (we are in a protected Regional Park), art and religion thanks to the presence of the rock churches and finally it is the only point from which you can enjoy the wonderful skyline of both Sassi, Caveoso and Barisano.
